History of the library

Information: La bibliothèque est provisoirement fermée à cause de la reconstruction du bâtiment.

DSC_9032.JPGThe library of Circolo Culturale e Ricreativo "Eugenio Curiel" was born in 1985, fruit of the happy intuition of the official of the European Institutions Rodolfo Raspanti. The original collection was the legacy of the Libreria Italiana of the time and was further completed with books specially sent by the italian publishing house Editori Uniti. Its cultural heritage has been constantly enriched thanks to private donations and purchases made by the Circolo committee. In order to improve its public use, the library has been equipped with an internet connection and a computer, as well as an online catalog.

The current 8,000 volumes in its collection contibute to make the Biblioteca del Circolo the place of choice for Italian culture in Luxembourg and the largest collection of books in Italian language available in the country and accessible to the public. Our library contains a large number of narrative books by Italian and foreign authors, as well as new and reference books for the most diverse disciplines and a section especially dedicated to children and teenagers literature. A special section is dedicated to history and politics; there is also a division devoted to Luxembourg territory, wich includes volumes in French, German and Luxembourgish. As for the audiovisual sector, it brings together Italian-language material for all tastes and ages.

Following an essential reorganization of equipment and services, the library has reopened its doors to the public. The new ambitious objectives require the periodic acquisition of new written and audiovisual works, the development of the educational and didactic program and the involvement of the public in the choice and programming of the library. By strengthening our links with the administrative, cultural and associative world of the Grand Duchy, we can facilitate the integration of the new wave of Italian immigration by offering an information and guidance service. Our library represents a privileged space for debate, open to sharing and conviviality: our long term objective is to contribute to cultural growth beyond the limits of the Italian community.
